As part of "Working To Be Plastic-Free," all city residents are encouraged to come down to 102 State Street and receive a plastic-free starter kit.

The free starter kit includes:

  • A reusable stainless steel water bottle;
  • A tote bag for groceries;
  • A reusable lunch bag;
  • Pens made from bamboo that are 87% plastic free;
  • Notepads.

There are 700 starter kits available, with one being given to each household. More will be ordered if needed. The initiative is funded by Hackensack's Clean Communities Grant.

"Disposable plastics do a lot of harm to the planet," Department of Cultural Arts Director Greg Liosi told Daily Voice. "We hope these starter kits help cut down on some of the plastic waste in our city."
